The University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) Research Center for Neuroendocrine
Influences on Pain (RCNIP) was established in September 2002 through a
Specialized Center of Research (SCOR) grant awarded by the National
Institutes of Health Office of
Research on Women’s Health (NIH ORWH), the
National Institute of Arthritis
and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases (NIAMS), and the
Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
In June 2003, the RCNIP established a “satellite” on the campus
of Georgia State University, headed by Dr. Anne Z. Murphy.
Joel
Greenspan, PhD (right), a professor in the Dental School, is
the principal investigator of the grant and director of the Center.
Edward Grace, DDS, an associate professor and director of the Brotman
Facial Pain Center in the Dental School, serves as the clinical
